The Ice Dogs Split with The CD Selects
The Ice Dogs traveled to Albany New York this past weekend for two games against the CD Selects. The first game was played Saturday night at Albany Academy. The Ice Dogs got on the board first in just 96 seconds on a goal by Kyle Anderson assisted by Derek Brown and Ken Santos. The CD Selects would answer the call with one of their own just 6 minutes later. This would be the only goal scored by the selects all night despite 50 shots on net as they were stone walled by Salem Ice Dogs goalie C.J. Palmer. The second period opened alot like the first with a goal by Ryan Hockney just 77 seconds into the period, assisted by Ryan Sargent and Ryan Duggan. The second period was evenly played with lots of back and forth action and a score locked at 2 to 1 until Ken Santos scored with just 2 -1/2 minutes remaining in the second on a powerplay slap shot from the top of the faceoff circle. The goal was assisted by Ty Zampitella and Dan Powers. The third period was all Ice Dogs as they added three more unanswered goals. The first at 7:10 by Kevin Poor assisted by Mark Moran and David Chiaradonna, The second by Derek Brown assisted by Kyle Anderson and Ken Santos, and the third by David Chiaradonna assisted by Ryan Sargent and Nic Jacobs. With a final score of 6 to 1 the Ice Dogs were feeling pretty confident about the next game. ...... ................ ............. ...... .... .... ... .... ...... The second game was played on Sunday afternoon at RPI Houston. A big factor in this game was the numerous unneccessary penalties, 29 in total leading to 10 powerplay opportunities for each team and plenty of 4 on 4 action. The Ice Dogs penalty kill unit of John Murray and John McGrath with Louis Gallego and Micah Goldberg on defense saw an abundance of ice time killing penalties. Most of the 4 on 4 action was lead by Zak Ray and Ryan Duggan causing havoc up front with the open space. Once again the game was decided by outstanding goaltending. The Ice Dogs Goalie C.J Palmer did an excellent job stopping the puck, allowing only two goals in this contest. The two goals were both powerplay goals early in the second period. Unfortunately the CD Selects goaltender played a perfect game shutting out the Ice Dogs for the win.
